Biography

A poly-instrumental performer, composer, producer Luigi Cinque, an interpreter of multiculturalism and of the melting glots phenomenon, a steady presence in the contemporary musical scenes, both jazz and traditional.
Since the early Seventies he's been working in order to mix Mediterranean tendences with jazz and contemporary classical music.
In the Eighties he's been on the scene, being a part of european experimental musical, theatrical and multimedial arts currents. As a steady presence he took part – as a soloist as well as in an ensemble – in the most important european meetings and festivals. He still works and plays togheter with avant-garde theaters and with new european dance currents. Luigi Cinque plays togheter with some of the most interesting progressive rock and jazz bands in Italy. He writes and directs contemporary operas and big metropolitan events based on music and images, held in: Rome, Rio De Janeiro, Jakarta, Sidney, Tokyo, Nairobi, Dakar, Tel Aviv, Moscow.
He cutted records for CRAMPS, BMG, Ricordi, MRF, Sossella, Squilibri, Fandango (Italian indie labels).
Luigi Cinque also created the indipendent label MRF 5 – multikey production and publishing workshop.
He worked also in textual and literary expression, writing " Kunsertu " (published by Longanesi), the novel " La Banda dell'idiota " (published by Stampa Alternativa), several essays and travel tales for important newspaper.
In 1997 Luigi Cinque organized for the first time the Festival Romapoesia .
He wrote and directed several video-works for RAI, Artè France, Canada, Spain, and he is renowed as one of the most representative writer/performer of the new frontier between music anthropology, musical writing and new applied technologies.
He helds a "History of Music" course in Rome, Department of Linguistic and Philological Studies, La Sapienza University.

2006 - April - Opera quartet, written by Luigi Cinque, with Elena Ledda, Raiz, Rita Marcotulli, Sal Bonafede, Andrea Biondi. Uluslararasi Muzik Festival, Ankara.

2006 - February - Sacra Konzert , a Cd and DVD project. Producted by Radio Fandango.

2006 - January - Alentejo Story, opera on Spain and Portugal tour, with Salvatore Bonafede, Elena Ledda, Ham de Foc, Ganhoes de Castro Verde (vocals group), El Chorro (flamenco dancer). Cd and DVD directed by Michele Cinque. Saramago joined the work. MRF 5 and Festival Sete Sois Sete Luas Production.

The Tragedy's choir was performed by percussionists form the Samba School of Favela Madureira and the Capoeira soloists. In collaboration with the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Italian Institute for Culture in Rio, Unirio University, Rio Arte, Rome soloists.

1989 - Marat Urbino - For the 200th Anniversary of French Revolution. Directed by Carlo Quartucci.

In these years Luigi Cinque worked almost in composition. Many of his works were
producted and performed among the most important new international show-production
centres.

1987 - Varanasi - India - He studied Raga, with Master Suthar Singh and Mangla Tawari.

1986 - Victor , a show by Pina Baush with Luigi Cinque. Argentina Theatre, Rome.

1982-1984 - Luigi Cinque attended studies among italian and international research centers on theatre. Luigi wrote with Carlo Quartucci, Giannis Kounellis, Renato Mambor and Rudy Fuchs some of the most representative scripts at that time, like:

1980 - Luigi Cinque sets up the Ensemble Tarantula .

1979 - "Calabria and Lucania" , Albatros, a Roberto Leydi label. The album was the final work of a research project on Madonna del Pollino Sanctuary. The project gave birth also to a documentary directed by Luigi Cinque.

1978 - "Note d'Atemporalità" . by CRAMPS production. The album was published in the same collection with John Cage, Steve Lacy and Demetrio Stratos.
Luigi Cinque wrote for the "Alfabeta" review; in the same years he held Phonology and Ethnomusicology courses at Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory of Milan. He attended a clarinet course and studied composition with Daniele Paris and Franco Evangelisti; meanwhile he attended at perfectioning courses with M° Berio.
In these years started his cooperation with Carlo Quartucci.

1973-1976 - Luigi Cinque joined the Canzoniere del Lazio , a historical band, the forerunner of the today's crossover and world music trends in the italian and european music scene.
" Lassa sta la Me' Creatura " and " Spirito Bono " albums were cutted togheter with him.

1972 - Luigi Cinque joined the alternative cultural trends. He wrote his first poetry and tale works for the " Alla Bottega " and " Living Music" magazine.

1970 - Luigi Cinque attended "Cinema and Literature " studies, held also by Pier Paolo Pasolini,  La Sapienza University and CSC Cinecittà, Rome.
